A short documentary about İlhan Kemaleddin Mimaroğlu who, having moved from Turkey to the USA in 1959, became one of the pioneers of electronic music. He became the legendary producer of Charles Mingus. His avant-garde music influenced people like Federico Fellini, Frank Zappa and John Lennon. Never losing his ties with Turkey, he passed away in 2012.

Maffy Falay, now an old man, lives in Stockholm. In the 60’s, when Jazz was at its peak, he performed in the US and in Europe with some of the greatest musicians of the era, such as Kenny Clarke, Francy Boland and Thelonious Monk. Being one of the last few representatives of this particular generation of art, the Bebop Jazz, he led a lonely life, isolated in the social fabric of Sweden.

We will witness Maffy, at the age of 88, in his efforts to return back to Turkey to start a new life in his homeland.

Nublu

Nublu is about the underground club and live music venue in New York run by Turkish owner llhan Ersahin. It features big chunks of musical performances from Nublu Orchestra, Henry Threadgill’s Ensemble, Sun Ra Arkestra, Brazilian Girls, Jojo Mayer’s Nerve & more, whilst visiting the history of some of the earlier jazz clubs in the East Village.
